The New Debs: Please Welcome the Class of 2018!

This week, we take a brief hiatus from our traditional Saturday Guest Author posts in order to introduce you to the new class of Debutante Ball authors. Drum roll, please…

Mondays: Cass Morris

Cass Morris lives and works in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with the companionship of two royal felines, Princess and Ptolemy. She completed her Master of Letters at Mary Baldwin University in 2010, and she earned her undergraduate degree, a BA in English with a minor in history, from the College of William and Mary in 2007. She reads voraciously, wears corsets voluntarily, and will beat you at MarioKart.

FROM UNSEEN FIRE, the first novel in the Aven Cycle and Morris’s debut, is a historical fantasy set in an alternative Rome. It will be out from DAW on April 3, 2018.

Tuesdays: Lara Lillibridge

Lara Lillibridge sings off-beat and dances off-key whenever her children give her the opportunity.  She grew up flying between her two moms in Rochester, New York, and her father in Anchorage, Alaska. Surprisingly, she did not amass a lifetime supply of frequent flier miles from the experience. She is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College’s MFA program in Creative Nonfiction.  In 2016 Lara won Slippery Elm Literary Journal’s Prose Contest, and The American Literary Review’s Contest in Nonfiction.  She has had essays published in Polychrome Ink, Hippocampus Magazine, Crab Fat Magazine, Luna Luna, Huffington Post, ROAR, and The Feminist Wire.

Her debut memoir, GIRLISH: GROWING UP IN A LESBIAN HOME, is slated for release November 7, 2017 with Skyhorse Publishing.

Wednesday: Kimmery Martin

Raised in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, Kimmery Martin is a literary reviewer, author interviewer, traveler, and obsessive information junkie. She and her husband now reside in Charlotte, North Carolina with a herd of energetic children and the world’s most obstinate dog. Kimmery exercises grudgingly, cooks inventively, reads voraciously, and is currently on hiatus from her day job as an ER doctor to work on her second novel.

THE QUEEN OF HEARTS, an exploration of friendship and secrets among practicing doctors, drops from Berkley on February 13, 2018.

Thursday: Julie Clark

When she’s not working or picking stray Legos off the carpet, Julie Clark is busy reading and calling it “research”.  Her writing has won Honorable Mention accolades from Glimmer Train, and has been selected as a finalist in the Pitch Wars contest. She lives in Santa Monica, California, where she teaches and writes full time.

Her debut, THE ONES WE CHOOSE – which weaves the science of genetics with the story of a mother desperate to help her son find his place in the world – will be published by Gallery in August 2018.

Friday: Kaitlyn Sage Patterson

Kaitlyn Sage Patterson grew up with her nose in a book near the Great Smoky Mountains. When she’s not untangling some particularly troublesome plot point, she can be found cooking elaborate meals, riding horses, or with her husband and their rescue dogs.

Katilyn’s debut YA Romance, THE DIMINISHED, is set in the Alskad Empire where nearly all are born with a twin, two halves to form one whole…yet some face the world alone. Harlequin Teen will release THE DIMINISHED on April 10, 2018.

The Class of 2017 Deb Ball authors are thrilled to pass the torch to these amazing women. We can’t wait to watch how the year unfolds for them, to follow their posts, and of course to read their books! Please welcome them to this community and cheer for them with every bit of the passion you all rooted for us.

To Cass, Lara, Kimmery, Julie, & Kaitlyn: Enjoy this year. Relish the journey and all of the places it will take you.

Love,

Crystal, Amy, Lynn, Jenni, & Tiffany

Author: Lynn K Hall

Lynn Hall is a memoirist, activist in the movement to end sexual violence, ultra-runner, and crazy cat lady. Her memoir, CAGED EYES: AN AIR FORCE CADET’S STORY OF RAPE AND RESILIENCE, was published by Beacon Press in February 2017. Her writing has previously appeared in the New York Times, The LA Times, Hippocampus Magazine, The Sexual Assault Report, The Manifest-Station, Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, and elsewhere. In the summers, Lynn copes with publication anxiety by spending too many days in the Colorado mountains, and in the winters, with pans of brownies. She lives in Boulder with her partner and their 23 cats. Just kidding…she only has five.
