This week we’re talking about our favorite things. That’s so ambiguous that I literally had a moment where I thought, I don’t know.
So for some structure — I like structure — I figured I’d break down my day to figure out what I like best (besides structure).
My favorite way to start the day: When I wake up, refreshed, and realize both my children are still sleeping. This rarely happens. Normally I wake up to my 1yo babbling to himself in his room. He coaxes me in, most days, and he’ll play for a few minutes before he tires of being in his crib. On other days, I’m a zombie and sleep through his chatter. Then, my day starts to the gleeful sound of wailing.
My favorite way to take my coffee: Hot. You’d think this would be a given, but sometimes the ‘ol mug goes into the microwave a few times because of a crazy morning.
My favorite book to read with my kiddos: Room on the Broom. It’s a picture book that’s simply fun and clever. I enjoy reading it and my 3yo loves hearing it. Around Halloween, there was even a 30-minute film on Netflix to correspond with the book. Better believe my daughter insisted on having the film on while I read.
My favorite lunch: My go-to is normally a green smoothie, along with a few bites of left overs. It’s a good day when the leftovers consist of the Bolis (short for strombolis) my husband makes. As far as my smoothie, I normally make the same one daily because I love it so much: Spinach, banana, strawberries, blueberries, and a splash of Vanilla-flavored protein. It’s delicious!
My favorite guilty pleasure: I try to do authorly stuff during nap time. But, I’ll admit, there are days I see my bed and, before I know it, it’s nap time for me too. Naps are sacred. My dog, Zoey, normally beats me there.
My favorite time suck: HGTV. Really, any of the shows, except for Flea Market Flip. I can’t help groaning when that’s on.
My favorite authorly moment: When I hit my daily word count. Let’s just say some days are better than others, but I love the feeling of accomplishment when I can hit ‘save’ knowing I did what I needed to do. Who’s with me?
My favorite time of the day: I’ve got two. The first is when my husband gets home from work. I like knowing we’re all safely under the same roof again. The second is when I finally crawl into bed. No matter how late I write or how late I’m up, I always read for a few minutes to clear my brain and blurry my eyes. It’s normally a crash landing of my kindle onto my bedside table as I fall asleep. Tonight I’m reading THE ORPHAN’S TALE by Pam Jenoff!
I have other favorites from my day I could sprinkle in, but babes and book babes account for so much of my day that this break-down seems to do my day justice. And I’ll take it 🙂
