First of all, can we talk about this cover? I love it with my whole heart. *wink*
I have always been a huge fan of medical dramas both on screen and on the page, so THE QUEEN OF HEARTS was an easy sell for me. Sharp, funny, and charming, THE QUEEN OF HEARTS is everything that I wanted and more! Zadie and Emma are the kinds of characters we can immediately fall in love with, flaws and all, and I love how their friendship shapes this story. The climax is TRULY harrowing.
I loved the fact that Kimmery’s own medical experience bled onto the page, and I was gripped by the narrative from the first page to the last. I’ve got to say, the best part of this book, for me, was the effortless way Martin managed to weave medicine into the background. This has just about all the blood and guts and medical jargon a doctor wannabe like me could ever ask for. Not to mention the great turns of phrase and gorgeous sentences that litter this book!
AND SWEET DELANEY. OMG. I loved that Kimmery wrote such a real and hilarious kiddo. A better comic relief has never existed. I just loved how real these characters felt. Get yourself a copy of THE QUEEN OF HEARTS today!
