Here’s the crazy thing about publishing – when you’re querying and on submission it can take forever. Like Colleen said yesterday, there is A LOT of waiting. But sometimes, when you least expect it, great things happen. Foreign rights sales are like this — they pop up out of no where. It’s like finding a twenty dollar bill in your coat pocket from last winter.
Well, that’s kind of how my book 2 sale went. I had given it to my agent, Rachel Ekstrom, to read and give feedback. I was brainstorming on how best to attack her notes when she let me know that Gallery had made an offer. Just like that. I didn’t even know those discussions were happening — it was the very best way to go on submission. This all happened way back in February and the announcement just went into Publisher’s Marketplace yesterday. (Remember when we said publishing is slow). Woohoo!!
Since then, I rewrote two-thirds of the novel based on Rachel’s excellent comments and handed in the manuscript. My brilliant editor turned it around in less than two weeks and I’ve been plugging away at her comments in between launching my first book into the world and trying to throw a little attention to my kids while they are on summer break. Kate Dresser, my editor, just gets me and the story I’m trying to tell – so her comments are all spot on. Along the way, Kate, Rachel, and I brainstormed a new title.
I’m excited to announce that LUCK, LOVE & LEMON PIE will be released in the summer of 2016!
I’m giddy that we found a title that uses alliteration AND an ampersand.
While I’m not quite ready to say much about the plot yet, it does have an independent woman, her hubby, sassy friends, Texas Hold ’em, a delicious lemon pie, and (hopefully) a whole lot more of what readers have loved about Coconut Cake.
Congrats (officially), Amy! Can’t wait for L3 🙂
Thanks! the challenge will be continuing to find titles that fit my alliteration needs. 🙂
So excited about this! Hope we get an early copy. 🙂
I’ll see what I can do!
So excited to hear this. Can’t wait to find out more about it, Amy! 🙂
Man, Amy, your books will always make me hungry.
Congrats!!! I’m reading Coconut Cake right now and truly loving it. Excited for your next one before I’m even finished with your first. 🙂
