A TBR For 2019

Friday, January 11, 2019

This week, I thought I might try to focus on picking one book to represent each genre I like to read in order to keep my list here from being a thousand books long. I may fudge a little, since many of the books I’m anticipating could fall into more than one category.   YOUNG ADULT:  On the Come Up by ANGIE THOMAS I know this pick could not be…

No, I’m not reading 100 books this year. But I’ll read these five.

Thursday, January 10, 2019

I am not a fast reader, which makes keeping up with all the new books sort of difficult. This year, I’m excited for lots of great books (like Willa & Hesper by Amy Feltman! The Affairs of the Falcóns by Melissa Rivero! Good Talk by Mira Jacob! The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling!), but I’m also looking forward to finally get to read the ones that have been sitting on my shelf already….

What Layne Can’t Wait to Read in 2019

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

I tweeted about my most anticipated 2019 books as part of the #Debut19Chat on Twitter last month, but I’ll expand my list from there so I have a nice round Top 10 (in order by publication date). Last Woman Standing by Amy Gentry (January 15th) – This feminist revenge thriller by my agent sister is already one of my favorite books of 2019. And bonus: if you’re in the Chicago…

Tuesday, January 8, 2019

I have my eyes on so many books this year! Like my beloved colleagues at the Debutante Ball I came up with a list for #Debut19Chat last month, and today’s list is an expansion.  I’m excited to delve into these rich and varied worlds! This list is still fluid, I’m certain I’ll be adding to it! In this field, an assortment of literary novels, memoir, YA, works in translation, essays…

Some More Books to be Excite About in 2019

Monday, January 7, 2019

There are so many amazing books coming out in 2019 I can barely handle it. I’ve posted on my own blog about all the fantasy and sci-fi coming out from debuts and I more recently put together a Twitter thread highlighting all the queer/QUILTBAG adult debut novels out this year: https://twitter.com/KA_Doore/status/1081211445356957698Click through for the whole list. So let’s just say I’m more than a little excite and that there’s a…

Does a Ladder Matter?

Friday, January 4, 2019

It’s coming home to me how often I start these posts with some comment about how I “don’t really do” whatever the topic of the week happens to be. I don’t live life with balance, I don’t dispense advice, I don’t blah blah blah. So let me hit you with a big surprise: I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. Truly, I don’t know that I’ve ever heard…

Three habits I plan to maintain for a joyful 2019

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Happy New Year to the lovely readers of this blog! I hope you had a wonderful break and are not starting 2019 with a fever, like me! This year is a pretty monumental year for me and a lot of my loved ones. Friends are moving back home, others are getting married, and others are pursuing new callings and careers. And of course, THEY COULD HAVE NAMED HER ANYTHING will…

So Resolved

Wednesday, January 2, 2019

Happy New Year to my fellow Debs and all our readers! Hope your 2019 is off to a great start. I’m the kind of Type A weirdo who makes resolutions all year long, but for the start of 2019 I’m trying to keep it relatively simple and focus on the following: Writing consistently – I’ve tried word count goals, time goals, etc. in the past, but this year I just…
