So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye…

julie andrewsFor my last post at The Debutante Ball, I keep staring at this blank screen and don’t know what to say. There’s nothing clever swirling around in my brain, no catchy phrases, no top five lists. The only thing I feel is this warm pulsing, this GRATITUDE. Gratitude for doing what I love, for having my books published, for the lovely reader letters and reviews and support. Gratitude for new ideas, new frontiers, new opportunities. I’m grateful for my time here at The Ball–for sharing my journey with four other amazing women who I have genuinely grown to care for. And I’m utterly grateful for YOU, the readers of this blog. As I sign off, I’ll leave you with one piece of advice I try to live by. It’s a quote on a congrats card that my dearest friends signed and gave to me when my debut book deal came through. I keep it at my desk so I can see it every single day.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”–Helen Keller

This is me. This is my life. To dare, to venture out, to strive. It makes me feel alive and worthwhile and full of hope. Don’t let time pass you by without taking a chance. Put yourself out there, heart forward, eyes open, and just go! Do not let fear rule your decisions. A heart broken or hopes dashed brings enrichment to our lives and that all-important PERSPECTIVE. That perspective leads to other roads–perhaps the road upon which you should travel–the place where you may just run into your bliss. But you’ll never know unless you take that first courageous step. Live a life without regrets, my friends. No regrets. So long…

  1. I always had a hard time following on Fridays, Heather! How do I beat that? You have a natural way for inspiration — like you could be a motivational speaker for writers!

    Wow … it’s ending …

    1. Oh, Lisa, you did a slammin’ good job following me! Your posts either cracked me up or made me marvel at how you managed to put a spin on a topic already explored four different ways! You rock, GF!

  2. I have a silver bracelet stamped with this quote. I bought it a long time ago when I was very unhappy with my life and how much writing I was (wasn’t) doing.

Also, I love The Sound of Music. Love.
